How we check movers
Every company page is built from FMCSA’s own public records. We do not collect reviews, estimate anything, or rank companies. When FMCSA does not publish a value, we write “Not published”.
Sources
- FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot: USDOT status, out-of-service date, entity type, operating authority, MC number, fleet size, inspections, crashes and safety rating. Latest data used: October 23, 2026.
- FMCSA Search Movers & Complaint History: whether FMCSA lists the company as authorized to transport household goods, and complaint counts from the National Consumer Complaint Database for the last four years. Latest data used: September 25, 2026.
- FMCSA datasets on data.transportation.gov: the Company Census File (to find household goods carriers by state and get addresses), and the Carrier – All With History files (current Motus file, legacy L&I file, which FMCSA last refreshed May 14, 2026) for insurance filings.
- State agencies for intrastate rules: Louisiana Public Service Commission, Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Which companies are listed
We start from carriers that FMCSA records as household goods carriers with a physical address in a launched state, largest fleets first. A company is published only if, on the day we check it:
- SAFER shows USDOT status ACTIVE and no out-of-service date;
- SAFER operating authority says “AUTHORIZED FOR” and includes Motor Carrier of Household Goods; and
- FMCSA’s mover search says the company “is authorized by FMCSA to transport Household Goods”.
Companies that fail any check are left off, even if they are well known. Broker-only companies are not listed. Being listed is not an endorsement.
Freshness
Each page shows the date we last checked it. FMCSA records change every day, and some insurance data comes from a file FMCSA stopped refreshing on May 14, 2026, so always confirm on the linked official page before you sign. We add states and companies in nightly batches and re-check existing pages on a rolling basis.
Corrections
Email toffee@mail.grokbot.com with the USDOT number. We fix errors by re-checking FMCSA, not by taking edits from companies.
